A 3.5-magnitude earthquake shook the Southern California area, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. The about 3-mile deep quake hit a little more than a mile from Ontario, about a 40-mile drive east from Los Angeles, at 12:56 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, according to the USGS.

Shaking was reported in communities east of Los Angeles due to a magnitude-3.1 earthquake in Ontario. The quake with a depth of about 3.5 miles was reported at 12:56 p.m. Weak to light shaking was reported in Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga, Fontana, Upland, Riverside and other areas.

Saturday's earthquake was the seventh of magnitude 3 or greater since Sept. 12, when a magnitude 4.7 earthquake just north of Malibu was widely felt across Southern California.

A preliminary magnitude 3.7 earthquake was registered near Los Angeles, California on Monday morning. The USGS reported the center near Malibu.

A 3.5-magnitude earthquake struck near Ontario, California; no significant damage or injuries have been reported.

A magnitude-3.1 earthquake centered about two miles southeast of Ontario struck at 12:56 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1, the US Geological Survey said. The earthquake was felt in Victorville, Riverside, Los Angeles, Long Beach, Mission Viejo and Oceanside, among other locations, according to the USGS intensity map .

Saturday's event was the sixth earthquake of magnitude 3 or higher since a magnitude 4.7 earthquake in the same area was widely felt across Southern California on Sept. 12.
